Former MLB legend Darryl Strawberry openly thanked Donald Trump during a heartfelt sermon at Sheridan Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after being granted a presidential pardon for his past legal troubles. Addressing more than 400 worshippers, Strawberry called the pardon a moment of deep spiritual and personal liberation.
“God just completely set me free when he gave me a pardon from President Donald J. Trump,” he told the congregation.
Strawberry pointed out that while other presidents may have had the opportunity, none had acted, adding, “Other presidents had opportunities, but they didn’t do it.” It was a powerful contrast to his own journey — from legal and personal chaos to renewed faith.
He reflected on his past convictions, including a 1995 guilty plea for tax evasion involving the failure to report hundreds of thousands in income.
He told how Trump personally reached out: “He told me, ‘You know you did some very bad things … But today … I’m wiping everything out.’” That moment, Strawberry said, left him deeply grateful and overwhelmed.
For the former eight-time All-Star, this moment didn’t just clear his legal slate — it reinforced his spiritual mission.
“I was really thankful to God,” he said. “God has really changed my life and kind of brought me to a really humbling place of doing his work.” He’s since dedicated himself to ministry, preaching widely and sharing how his faith has helped him overcome addiction and legal struggles.
Strawberry made a point of emphasizing that his pardon wasn’t rooted in politics, but in personal redemption. To him, this is not just a second chance in the public eye — it’s a spiritual rebirth, fueled by forgiveness, faith, and a desire to serve others.
