Colorado Rockies’ Manager Decision Causes a Stir

The Colorado Rockies had a forgettable 2025 campaign. They finished with the worst record in all of baseball at 43-119, with an early managerial change not even doing the trick for them.

After starting off the season with a 7-33 record, the Rockies parted ways with then-manager Bud Black. Warren Schaeffer, who was Colorado’s third-base coach and infield coach at the time, was subsequently promoted to interim manager.

Under Schaeffer, the Rockies had 36 wins and 86 losses, keeping them at the bottom of the MLB. In fact, they were the only team in the majors to fail to win more than 50 games.

That being said, it certainly drew plenty of attention when the Rockies decided to keep Schaeffer as their full-time manager for 2026, removing the interim tag from him.

Many were happy for Schaeffer, with one fan pointing out that it’s “well deserved.”

“Rockies building continuity with Schaeffer at the helm for 2026,” a supporter added. Another one shared, “Good. He is totally dedicated to turning his team around and making them competitive for the playoffs.”

Others, however, couldn’t help but poke fun at the situation. Critics highlighted that there are probably no other manager candidates who would want the job after the disastrous campaign the team had.

“My first reaction is to laugh but you really can’t blame the manager. The organization joke starts at the top. It’s a terrible roster, what was he supposed to do? The Rockies are a joke,” a follower stated.

A fifth social media user remarked, “Poor guy.”

“By default. No other person would want to take on the headache in managing that franchise,” a critic claimed.

It remains to be seen how the Rockies will perform under Schaeffer in 2026, but there will surely be plenty of eyes on them.
