Jason Kidd Opens Up On Knicks’ Bold Move To Steal Him From Dallas

Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd finally broke his silence on reports that the New York Knicks tried to lure him this offseason — and he made one thing very clear: leaving for New York was never on his mind. According to Kidd, he was flattered by the interest but has no intention of walking away from Dallas.

“I was never thinking about leaving Dallas,” Kidd said. He emphasized how deep his ties run with the Mavericks: “I love working for … Patrick Dumont. Understanding that we have a lot of work here to be done … I’m all in to be able to do that. I was drafted here. I have won here. I love the city. I love the fans.” In his view, loyalty to the franchise is more than just words — it’s a commitment.

Kidd admitted that the Knicks’ overture felt nice. “I think it’s safe to say we all enjoy being wanted,” he reflected. But despite that flattery, he insists he stayed put. Dallas reportedly denied New York’s request to interview him, and that, combined with Kidd’s own resolve, sealed the deal. He reiterated that he never seriously considered the Knicks job, particularly because he believes in the long-term vision in Dallas.

The Mavericks, for their part, backed Kidd strongly: they awarded him a multi-year extension, signaling their confidence in his leadership. Sources say that Kidd’s contract binds him to Dallas, and he seems fully committed to building something meaningful there.

Kidd’s comments come amid speculation that there was mutual intrigue between him and the Knicks. But with the Mavericks shutting down interview requests and Kidd publicly affirming his dedication, it’s now crystal clear: he’s not heading to New York. At least, not anytime soon.
