Ronda Rousey Faces Questions About Return, Valentina Shevchenko Unsure About Taking Fight

UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko recently addressed the ongoing chatter about a potential Ronda Rousey comeback — and she’s not exactly sold on a super‑fight right now. While she says she supports Rousey’s return ambitions, she’s cautious about jumping into a bout with the former bantamweight queen at this stage.

Shevchenko noted, “A lot of training from her lately, like people commenting about. Why not? Why not?” She recognizes Rousey’s star power and legacy, but she also pointed out how much time has passed. “Her longest layoff lasted under a year. By comparison … she’s been gone for eight,” Shevchenko said.

Given that gap, Shevchenko doesn’t believe it’s the right moment for them to face off.

“I don’t think so at this moment,” she explained. “Like years ago, it would make more sense, but at this point in my life, her life, I don’t think it makes sense.”

Still, Shevchenko made it clear she respects Rousey’s commitment and sees value in her return: “If she feels she can do that, it would definitely be good for the sport.”

She even offered advice: Shevchenko believes Rousey should consider easing back in, perhaps by taking a few lower-level fights first to rebuild her fight rhythm and confidence.

“Before you come back … if it were me, I would do several fights … just to get back in shape … feel this pressure in fighting,” she said.

Ultimately, Shevchenko remains pragmatic. She applauds Rousey’s fire, but she’s not buying into a nostalgic blockbuster just yet — not when timing and momentum may not be aligned.
