NFL Punishes Bills Star for Hit on Baker Mayfield

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield

The Buffalo Bills may have beaten the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their Week 11 showdown last Sunday, but it wasn’t all positive for them.

Two players from the team were hit with fines from the NFL for their violations during the showdown, including star defensive end Joey Bosa.

Bosa finished with just one tackle in the contest that saw the Bills dominate, 44-32. Nonetheless, what stood out from the play of 30-year-old NFL veteran was his low hit on Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield late in the fourth quarter.

The Bills DE was flagged for the play, and the NFL slapped him with a $17,389 fine on Saturday for his actions. The league explained that the violation is for a hit on the quarterback, as he made “contact to the knee area or below of a passer.”

Bills running back Ty Johnson was the other Buffalo player to get punished. The NFL handed him a $10,777 fine for “obscene gestures.” It came after Johnson celebrated his touchdown in the second quarter by lying on the ground and thrusting his hips in an inappropriate manner.

Despite the punishments, no one can deny that it was an unforgettable outing for the Bills, particularly for Buffalo star quarterback Josh Allen.

Allen threw for 317 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-30 pass completion. While he committed two interceptions, he more than made up for it with his additional three touchdowns on the ground. As a result, the Bills signal-caller tied Cam Newton for the most rushing touchdowns by a QB in NFL history.
