Shohei Ohtani’s Post Causes a Wave of Panic

Shohei Ohtani just led the Los Angeles Dodgers to their second straight World Series title, beating the Toronto Blue Jays in 2025. He also won his fourth MVP in the process, as well as his fourth Silver Slugger award.

The 31-year-old recorded 62 strikeouts against only nine walks in 47 innings as a pitcher during the past campaign. As a batter, he broke his career-high 54 home runs from last season by one, finishing with 55 HRs in 2025.

Naturally, after also signing a 10-year, $700 million contract with the L.A. franchise in 2023, expectations are that Ohtani will spend the remainder of his baseball career with the Dodgers.

However, many couldn’t help but panic after Ohtani posted a “Thank You” message on Instagram on Monday. It was actually an announcement of Ohtani’s intent to play for Japan in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, but several followers thought he was leaving the Dodgers.

“I almost just had a full heart attack,” a commenter wrote, thinking that the Japanese superstar is joining a new team. Another one said, “Dont scare me like this!! I thought there was a transaction.”

“Bro my heart DROPPED!!!!” a third fan added.

“DANGIT SHOHEI YOU GAVE US ALL A HEART ATTACK,” a follower remarked.

A fifth supporter stated, “Thank you Shohei! Whew this post almost scared me.”

“Thought you were retiring for a sec,” a sixth poster admitted.

It’s definitely good news for the Dodgers that Ohtani isn’t going anywhere. Even better for baseball fans, they’ll get to see more of Ohtani in the World Baseball Classic in March.
