Lakers vs. Raptors: Is Luka Doncic Playing Tonight?

Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic reacts while playing.

The Los Angeles Lakers lost their previous game against the Phoenix Suns, snapping a seven-game winning streak that saw them climb up to second in the Western Conference standings.

L.A. has a chance to bounce back on Thursday against the Toronto Raptors, but it certainly won’t be easy considering how hot the Canadian franchise has been this campaign. The Raptors have won eight of their last 10 games, placing them second in the Eastern Conference standings with a 15-7 record.

Making things a bit more problematic for the Lakers, however, Luka Doncic has been ruled out for the game.

Why Is Luka Doncic Not Playing Tonight?

Doncic has been the Lakers’ best player this campaign. He’s leading the league in points per game with 35.3, while shooting 47.8% from the field and 34.1% from the 3-point line.

The Slovenian guard is also averaging 8.9 rebounds and 8.9 assists, along with 1.6 steals and 0.6 blocks. Doncic leads the Lakers in points, rebounds and assists, while being second in steals and blocks.

Unfortunately, Doncic wasn’t able to join the Lakers in their trip to Toronto due to personal reasons.

There have been reports that Doncic flew back to his home country of Slovenia to be with his fiancée for the birth of their second child. However, the rumors have yet to be confirmed.

Doncic’s absence is not expected to be a lengthy one since he’s not injured; however, it’s possible he will also miss the Lakers’ game against the Boston Celtics on Friday.
