Patrick Mahomes Hits Chiefs With Brutal Truth as Playoff Hopes Dim

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The Kansas City Chiefs dropped to 6-7 on the season with a loss to the Houston Texans in Week 14 on Sunday.

Patrick Mahomes and company couldn’t overcome the Texans’ top-rated defense, managing only one touchdown and losing 20-10. Running back Kareem Hunt was the only Chief to reach the end zone with a rushing TD in the third quarter.

Mahomes, for his part, was limited to 160 yards on 14-of-33 pass completion. He was intercepted three times and sacked twice.

Texans QB C.J. Stroud threw for 203 yards and one touchdown, all while avoiding being intercepted. Running back Dare Ogunbowale added a rushing TD for Houston, as the team improved to 8-5 on the campaign.

Naturally, Mahomes was frustrated with their performance. While he has seen flashes of brilliance from his squad, at the end of the day, they simply couldn’t close out games.

It’s worth noting that the Chiefs were able to tie the game 10-10 in the third quarter, but when they had the chance to take the lead in the fourth quarter, Mahomes was intercepted by cornerback Kamari Lassiter.

“We’ve been close all season, at the end of the day, you’ve got to go out there and make it happen,” Mahomes said about the Chiefs in his postgame presser, per Charles Goldman of AtoZ Sports.

“Until we prove it, we’ll come away with losses. I know we’re going to give everything we have and we’ll see what happens.”

The Chiefs have four games remaining this season, and they need to win out if they want to keep their slim chances of making the playoffs. With their latest loss, Mahomes and Kansas City’s playoff probability dropped to about 15%.
