Eagles QB Jalen Hurts Leaves Philly With 1 Question After Loss

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts looks on during a game.

The Philadelphia Eagles dropped to 8-5 on the season with their loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football, raising questions about their offense and their ability to defend their Super Bowl title.

Jalen Hurts failed to score a touchdown in the 22-19 loss. To make matters worse, he had four interceptions and five total turnovers — including two in a single play in the second quarter, which had not been seen since 1978.

Saquon Barkley was the only player to score a touchdown for the Eagles, who lost in overtime following a 54-yard field goal from Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker. It didn’t help that Hurts was picked off by L.A. safety Tony Jefferson to end the game in the extra period.

After the brutal loss, Hurts was naturally frustrated. However, instead of crying over spilled milk, the Super Bowl LIX MVP emphasized his desire to quickly move on and shift his focus to what they need to do in response to the setback.

“It definitely stings, definitely stings,” Hurts said. “But, how do you respond? And that’s the only way I know how to look at it. Again, you’re going to see what type of resolve do we have — what’s in us to respond the way we want to. So, we’ve just got to dig.”

Hurts, however, knows that the response needs to start with him. He understands his shortcomings in the loss, and he’s not pointing fingers at anyone as he takes accountability for what happened.

“I think winning is a point of pride to me. That’s why we play the game. And I’ve got to find ways to lead our team to victories,” Hurts shared, per NBC Sports. “It’s not something that’s foreign to us. We’re just not able to do it at the moment. It starts with me and how I play, how I lead, and how I go out there and do my job. So, when I look at it, at any point, it’s about how I respond to a test — how I respond to it and what level of resilience and resolve I have to push forward and figure things out.”

The Eagles remain atop the NFC East, but they can’t afford to suffer any more losses since the 6-6-1 Dallas Cowboys are trailing closely. Not to mention, Philly is on a three-game skid, which isn’t exactly an encouraging sign.
