Anthony Edwards’ Painful Kobe Bryant Admission After Making NBA History

Anthony Edwards' Painful Kobe Bryant Admission After Making NBA History

Anthony Edwards added another milestone to his growing résumé on Thursday night, and it came during yet another win for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Minnesota extended its winning streak to four games with a 131-122 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, powered by a strong all-around showing from Edwards. The three-time All-Star finished with 25 points on 10-of-20 shooting, along with seven rebounds, a game-high nine assists, one steal and one block in 37 minutes of action.

The performance also carried historical significance.

At just 24 years and 156 days old, Edwards eclipsed the 10,000-point mark for his career, making him the third-youngest player in NBA history to reach the milestone.

Only LeBron James and Kevin Durant did it at a younger age, with the former achieving the feat at 23 years and 56 days old and the latter doing so at 24 years and 33 days old.

Edwards moved past Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant on the all-time list, a fact that didn’t sit entirely right with the Timberwolves star. Bryant was 24 years and 194 days old when he reached the 10K mark.

“I’m kind of sick that I got it from Kob,” Edwards admitted after the game. “I wish I would have waited like 100 days or something. But it’s all good.”

The comment reflected Edwards’ deep respect for Bryant, whom he has often cited as an inspiration. Passing the late Hall of Famer may have come with mixed emotions, but it also underscored just how quickly Edwards has established himself as one of the league’s elite scorers.

Edwards continues to trend upward, and there’s little doubt he’ll keep climbing historic lists as his career progresses.

His next opportunity to add to that total comes Sunday, when Minnesota faces Cleveland again in a road rematch. The Timberwolves enter the contest with a 25-13 record, currently sitting fourth in the Western Conference.
