Anthony Davis’ name is once again floating around NBA trade rumors. This time, it’s tied to the Golden State Warriors following some brutal news out of the Bay.
Golden State confirmed Tuesday that Jimmy Butler suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, an injury he sustained during Monday’s win over the Miami Heat. Butler was helped off the floor and later ruled out for the rest of the season, dealing a massive blow to a Dubs team already navigating an uncertain stretch.
With Butler sidelined, speculation quickly reignited around potential roster moves, including a long-rumored blockbuster trade involving the Dallas Mavericks big man.
Davis, however, isn’t exactly healthy himself. The 10-time All-Star is currently sidelined with ligament damage in his left hand. While surgery isn’t required, the Mavericks don’t expect him back until at least early March, putting his short-term availability in question as the February trade deadline approaches.
The Warriors have been widely viewed as potential buyers, and Davis has previously been mentioned among possible trade targets across the league. His injury status, though, appears to have cooled any serious momentum around a deal.
Warriors’ Stance on Anthony Davis Trade After Jimmy Butler News
NBC Sports reporter Grant Liffmann addressed the situation on Tuesday, offering a clear update on Golden State’s stance.
“I’ve been told that the Warriors are not in any active trade discussions with the Dallas Mavericks regarding Anthony Davis, for instance,” Liffmann stated, via ClutchPoints,
Liffmann also noted that Golden State has no plans to pivot into a tanking approach in hopes of improving its position in the 2026 NBA Draft. While the Dubs may still explore some roster moves in a bid to bring more help for Steph Curry, Davis does not currently appear to be a part of those conversations and plans.
That said, Butler’s season-ending injury could still force Golden State to reassess its options before the deadline. Jonathan Kuminga, who has already requested a trade, remains another name to watch as the team looks at potential deals.
For now, though, any Anthony Davis-to-Golden State buzz appears to be on pause.
