Vince Carter Announces Big Decision 6 Years After NBA Retirement

NBA Legend Vince Carter.

Vince Carter has never been far from the game, even after walking away from the NBA six years ago. Now, the Hall of Famer is stepping into a new chapter in his post-playing career, and he’s doing it alongside family.

On Wednesday, Carter and his cousin, fellow NBA icon Tracy McGrady, revealed they are launching a new podcast together titled “Cousins.” The announcement was made via social media, officially marking Carter’s latest post-retirement move.

Carter retired in 2020 after an unprecedented 22-season NBA career that spanned eight All-Star selections, two All-NBA honors and a Rookie of the Year award. His longevity and impact were recognized in 2024, when he was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

McGrady, meanwhile, carved out his own legacy during a 15-year NBA run. A seven-time All-Star and two-time scoring champion, he was enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 2017.

Vince Carter Gets Into Podcasting With Tracy McGrady

With podcasts becoming a popular platform for current and former athletes, Carter and McGrady are the latest stars to enter the space. NBA personalities like LeBron James and Steve Nash have found success with long-form basketball conversations, while NFL standouts Travis and Jason Kelce have turned “New Heights” into one of the most recognizable sports podcasts today.

Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green has also found success giving his unfiltered NBA takes in his own show.

Carter believes his shared history with McGrady gives “Cousins” a unique angle, according to Hollywood Reporter

“Tracy and I have seen this game from every angle — as players, as family, and as fans of the current era,” Carter said. “With ‘Cousins,’ we get to give fans the real stories behind the highlights they’ve watched a million times and the defining moments that shaped our careers, while also breaking down today’s game.”

McGrady echoed that sentiment, calling the show “not your typical podcast” and teasing “up-close, personal conversations” rooted in one of basketball’s most electric eras.

The first episode of “Cousins” is scheduled to be released on Jan. 28, officially marking Carter’s major move back into the basketball spotlight — this time, behind the microphone.
