Juan Soto Fires Warning To Shohei Ohtani In Intensifying MVP Race

Washington Nationals right fielder Juan Soto (22) taking a swing during the 4th inning in a game against the Miami Marlins at Nationals Park in Washington D.C., April 26, 2022.

Shohei Ohtani won the NL MVP last season by securing 420 points. He beat Kyle Schwarber in style, who finished second in the race. At third, it was Mets slugger Juan Soto. It was Ohtani’s fourth NL MVP title, and he’s not ready to stop anytime soon.

However, Soto is not ready to back down for the upcoming season. Soto is ready for the upcoming season, but his recent words are what caught the attention of many.

Now that he’s going to be with the Mets for the next 14 years, Juan Soto openly challenged Shohei Ohtani.

When asked about being in the MVP race, Juan Soto never hesitated to take a shot at Shohei Ohtani.

“I’m going to be there every year, too So he better keep doing what he’s doing, because I’m coming,” Soto said.

The All-Star is already working on a way to get ahead of Ohtani as he’s trying to find a way to beat him.

“He’s really good. He’s really good,” Soto said. “I’ve just got to beat him. Definitely, it’s not going to be easy, but I’ve got to find a way to beat him.”

Juan Soto Is Ready With His Game Plan For The Upcoming Season

Soto ranks among the league’s elite hitters, but Ohtani lapped him on the basepaths. Ohtani became the first player in the history of the league to hit 50 home runs and record 50 stolen bases.

Juan Soto is yet to get there. He wants to work around the bases and stay competitive in the league.

“I feel like everybody tries to do better than what they did before. I would definitely love to be better around the bases and better around the outfield. Even hitting, I try to keep my hitting increased. Thank God I’ve been doing well the past couple of seasons. I’ve been putting numbers up there, career highs and stuff like that. So I just want to keep doing the same thing. I try to be better year after year,” Juan Soto continued.

The Mets have plenty of pressure to make the playoffs this year. Juan Soto’s signing last season failed to earn them a Wild Card spot. Hopefully, they will have a shot in 2026.
