Lindsey Vonn Missed Getting Her Leg Amputated

Vonn’s injury was one of the most gruesome ones in sports. The 41-year-old struggled immensely as the magnitude of the injury was too high. Vonn ran the risk of losing her leg, and thanks to her surgeon, Dr. Tom Hackett, she was able to save her leg.

Lindsey Vonn opened up on the horrifying moment that she experienced.

“When you have so much trauma to one area of your body so that there’s too much blood and it gets stuck, and it basically crushes everything,” Vonn said.

Vonn said Dr. Tom Hackett did what he had to do at the right time to prevent her from losing her leg.

“He filleted it open and let it breathe, and he saved me. If I hadn’t had done that, Tom wouldn’t have been there [and he] wouldn’t have been able to save my leg,” Vonn continued.

Vonn’s gruesome injury ranks among the nastiest in Winter Olympics history. Recovery’s a long haul ahead, but fans have her back big time.
