Chicago Sky Fans Demand to “Trade Angel Reese” After WNBA Draft Lottery

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese.

The 2026 WNBA Draft lottery happened on Sunday, with the Chicago Sky landing the No. 5 overall pick as expected.

Chicago had the second-worst cumulative record in the WNBA over the past two seasons at 23-61 — which the lottery odds are based on — but they didn’t own their 2026 first-round pick after trading it to the Minnesota Lynx last offseason.

During the draft lottery, the Lynx ended up getting the second pick, while the Dallas Wings landed the first pick for the second straight year. The Sky got the fifth pick since they had the right to swap first-round picks with the Connecticut Sun in 2026.

After the lottery results were announced, however, fans couldn’t help but call for the team to trade Angel Reese, so the All-Star forward can thrive elsewhere. It’s worth noting that Reese previously threatened to take her talents somewhere else if Chicago doesn’t improve and show a commitment to winning.

Considering how the Sky still struggled despite trading their 2026 pick, many fans couldn’t help but wonder if the team will actually be able to create a contender around Reese. Several others also took notice of how Chicago was the only team to not be represented by a player during the draft lottery, further highlighting the franchise’s poor reputation.

“FreeAngel,” a commenter wrote on Instagram. Another one said, “Trade Angel Reese.”

A commenter added, “Free angel.” A fourth follower echoed the same sentiment, exclaiming, “Free Angel Reese.”

“Free5 from this trainwreck of an organization,” a poster added.

It remains to be seen what the Sky will do to improve the roster this offseason, but clearly many fans are losing hope in the team.
