Sports commentator Skip Bayless has established a reputation as LeBron James’ biggest hater. Even when the Los Angeles Lakers star does something positive, Bayless seems to always find a way to say something negative about him.
That being said, it didn’t come as a surprise that Bayless had something to say about James once again during the Lakers’ game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday.
Luka Doncic had an impressive performance in the showdown, recording 43 points, nine assists and 13 rebounds as the Lakers took the 135-118 win. James, for his part, had 25 points, six rebounds and six assists.
During the contest, fans at Crypto.com Arena showed their support for Doncic by chanting “MVP.”
While fans have every reason to cheer “MVP” for Doncic since the Slovenian star is a top-three MVP candidate this campaign, Bayless made it about James by claiming that the NBA veteran was likely not happy hearing that from the home crowd.
“LeBron James can’t be real pleased hearing the Lakers crowd chant MVP for Luka Doncic,” Bayless wrote on social media.
It’s a rather bizarre take from Bayless, especially since James was just in his third game of the season after missing the Lakers’ first 14 games as he recovered from sciatica.
Many were quick to defend James and criticize Bayless for his take, with Lakers fans pointing out that LeBron is unlikely to qualify for MVP anyway because of the 65-game rule.
“Skip I know you’re not familiar with the concept of aging gracefully, but believe it or not some people don’t turn into bitter shriveled up haters as they grow old,” a critic wrote.
Another one said, “Why? He’s not gonna be eligible for the award why would he not want his teamate and friend win it.. He wanted it for Kyrie and AD.”
“Lakers fans chanted MVP for AD. We’ve chanted MVP for Reaves. Hell, we chanted MVP for Alex Caruso. We show love to our guys when they play well. LeBron’s been around enough to see it all,” an L.A. faithful added.
