NBA Congratulates Heat Coach Erik Spoelstra Over Career News

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra continues to cement his legacy as one of the greatest coaches in NBA history.

On Wednesday, Spoelstra further solidified his place in the history books after guiding the Heat to a win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Heat survived a fierce challenge from the Giannis Antetokounmpo-less Bucks to secure a 106-103 win. Tyler Herro was sensational with 29 points, five rebounds and 11 assists, while five other Miami players scored in double figures.

The win gave Spoelstra his 800th win as a coach in the regular season, becoming just the 17th coach to do so. The NBA highlighted Coach Spo’s accomplishment on social media and quickly congratulated him on the career milestone.

“Congrats to Erik Spoelstra of the @MiamiHEAT for becoming the 17th coach to secure 800 total coaching wins!” the NBA wrote on X.

Spoelstra remains 17th in all-time coaching wins. He’s trailing legendary coach Cotton Fitzsimmons, who is No. 16 with 832 wins in his coaching career.

It’s worth noting, however, that Spoelstra is one of the few coaches to have multiple NBA championships. He has won two titles with the Miami franchise during the Big 3 era of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Spoelstra is tied with nine others for the most championship wins by a coach. Phil Jackson remains atop that list with 11, followed by Red Auerbach (9), Gregg Popovich (5), Pat Riley (5), John Kundla (5) and Steve Kerr (5).

Considering that it’s still early in the 2025-26 season, Spoelstra has a chance to continue climbing the all-time coaching wins list and potentially the championship leaderboard.
