Luka Doncic Assigns Blame for Lakers’ Loss To Suns

Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic

The Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Phoenix Suns, 125-108, in their Monday night showdown. It snapped a seven-game winning streak for the Purple and Gold and dropped them to 15-5 on the season.

It was an uncharacteristic showing for the Lakers, who shot just 13-of-33 from the 3-point line. To make matters worse, they committed 21 turnovers, allowing the Suns to take advantage of those mistakes with 32 points.

Luka Doncic led the scoring for L.A. with 38 points, while no other Laker scored more than 20. However, the Slovenian star also had nine turnovers, which proved costly for the team.

In his postgame presser, Doncic was asked about the Lakers’ turnover problems and acknowledged that he was to blame for the issue.

“That was my fault. I shouldn’t have nine turnovers in a game,” Doncic shared, per LoJo Media.

The 26-year-old guard also admitted that the Suns shot well and played physical defense, which really bothered the Lakers.

For what it’s worth, Lakers star LeBron James also pointed to their turnovers as the main reason behind the loss, adding that it was worse because the Suns were able to score a lot of points off them.

“Turnovers, transition points,” James said of the loss, according to ESPN. “And obviously, on our home floor and against a disruptive defense like that, you can’t turn the ball over that much. And they were pretty much all pick-sixes. They not only turned us over, they were able to convert.”

The Lakers have a two-day break before returning to action against the Toronto Raptors on Thursday. That should be enough time for the team to review what went wrong against the Suns.
