NBA fans are up in arms after the Los Angeles Clippers parted ways with franchise legend Chris Paul on Wednesday morning.
Paul announced last November that the 2025-26 campaign would be his final season in the NBA before calling it a career. With that said, many were hoping that he would finish it out with the Clippers, with whom he signed during the offseason and where he was a franchise legend.
Paul previously played for the Clips from 2011 to 2017 and was the catalyst in bringing the team to relevance, with the team becoming known as the “Lob City” Clippers with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan.
However, Paul revealed on his Instagram Stories on Wednesday that he was surprisingly sent home by the Clippers amid their road trip. The team then released a statement to confirm the decision, with Clippers president Lawrence Frank saying that “he will no longer be with the team” and that they “will work with him on the next step of his career.”
Fans didn’t like the move at all, and the timing — early morning and amid a road trip — made it even worse. Critics called the decision “classless” and “disrespectful,” especially since Paul is a team legend.
Sure enough, fans felt that CP3 deserved better treatment.
“Maybe the most disrespectful thing you can do to your all time best player during his farewell tour,” a commenter wrote on Instagram. Another one said, “insane disrespect to a HOF player.”
“He’s definitely not the reason why they suck but to cut him on his retirement tour is a new low for that organization,” a critic added.
A follower stated, “Did cuz like this in his farewell tour… smh disrespectful.”
“Poverty franchise making poverty moves,” a fifth social media user remarked.
“I am Ashamed to be a Fan of this Franchise,” a poster noted.
It remains to be seen what’s next for Paul, but sure enough, plenty of eyes will be on him. Clearly, fans are hoping that he gets the farewell tour he deserves.
